Manchester United have suffered a huge injury blow, with Patrick Dorgu set to spend ten weeks on the sidelines with a torn hamstring.

The Dane endured a rollercoaster of emotions during Sunday’s defeat of Arsenal at the Emirates, putting United in front with a stunning long-range goal before being withdrawn with an injury just half an hour later.

He lost his balance while chasing a loose ball and immediately felt his hamstring after hitting the turf. He was replaced by Benjamin Sesko.

And according to a new report from The Athletic, scans have shown the injury to be more severe than first feared. The club had initially put his issue down to cramp.

To spend ten weeks out would see Dorgu return in early April, with a potential to return when Leeds visit Old Trafford on April 11.

It is a hammer blow for United, who have been renewed under interim boss Michael Carrick, who had employed Dorgu on the left wing.

Speaking from the Emirates at full-time, Carrick told reporters: "[Dorgu] came off with hopefully a little bit of cramp, but hopefully it's nothing worse.

"He ended up coming off but I think it just shows what he put in with his performance. But yeah absolutely delighted for him, just hope he's not too bad.

"At this stage it's hard to tell [whether the injury is more severe than cramp]. We'll just have to wait and see but for sure we're hoping that it's not too bad.”
