Manchester United supporters are planning to protest against the club’s owners after learning about a proposal that could result in them being charged £4,000 for a season ticket.

It emerged earlier this month that the Red Devils were considering bringing in a Personal Seat License system if they move to a new stadium.

United insist the concept remains purely theoretical at this stage, but the supporters are furious and plan to protest ahead of the opening Premier League game against Arsenal.

A representative for fans’ group The 1958 told the Daily Mail: “We are fervently against Personal Seat Licences.

“This will force out supporters who have followed our club for decades. It will price out the youth, local communities and generations of loyal fans.

“It’s another step towards the Americanisation of our game, which is ripping football away from its working class roots, showing just how out of touch our club and owners have become.

“This isn’t about the game or the supporters, it’s about profit and greed over loyalty and tradition. We’ll campaign hard against this.”

United finished 15th in the Premier League last season, their lowest position in the top flight since 1974.

To address the club’s financial issues, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made many unpopular decisions.

He has implemented a harsh cost-cutting regime at Old Trafford, including staff redundancies, budget cuts and internal restructuring.

Ticket prices were also raised for the 2025-26 campaign without any consultation with the fans, who expressed dismay at the club’s decision.

However, United’s summer transfer window has been encouraging, as they have signed Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
