Manchester United’s transfer strategy this summer figures to be different from what it has been for the last decade or so.
It will be the first summer window under the INEOS leadership and the hopes are high regarding a pivot towards a smarter recruitment drive.
Perhaps no other name has been linked in more concrete terms with the “new” United than Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise.
The right-winger has set the Premier League alight since joining from Reading in the Championship division.
United got a first-hand look at how deadly he can be after he scored a brace in their shameful 4-0 away loss to Palace.
It isn’t a surprise that they are after the Frenchman but it looks like developments outside their control could make it a bit tricky.
The Football Association have announced that Olise’s agent is set to be banned for six months for breaching FA agent rules.
The agent has been banned after an investigation into the player’s contract with Reading dating all the way back to 2019., with a fine of £15,000 on top of it after the charged he denied were proven.
Supposedly, he was set to “receive payments contingent on the future transfer of the player” which is a breach of rules under the FA. Reading, his club at the time, have also been fined £200,000 for the offence.
However, the ban will come into force from October 4, so if United manage to strike a deal for him in the summer, they can rest easy knowing who to get in touch with.
The right-wing spot has been a pain point at United for a long time, with Jadon Sancho flattering to deceive and Antony turning out to be a big-money dud.
Mason Greenwood became a non-factor due to his off-field issues and Amad never seems to get a consistent look-in for the first team.
Therefore, Olise makes sense as the primary target as a Premier League-proven player who is also on the younger side.
United would hope there are no further transgressions from the agent till the summer when they can begin talks over a potential transfer.
