Manchester United fans can now buy preserved pieces of the old Old Trafford pitch for £125, each set inside a glass cube. The offer follows a summer overhaul of the playing surface.

According to Goal.com, the pitch was dug up and stripped back to its base in June for the first time in 14 years, with club groundsperson Tony Sinclair overseeing the work.

The rebuild aimed to regrow the surface to improve player welfare and water drainage. Rather than discard the turf, sections were saved for supporters to purchase.

That grass witnessed decades of United history, including the Sir Alex Ferguson era of 13 Premier League titles, two Champions League triumphs and numerous FA Cups.

It also staged some chastening lows, among them a 5-0 defeat by Liverpool and a 6-1 loss to Tottenham. Most recently, a Carabao Cup tie against Brighton swung from 2-0 up to a 3-2 defeat, the first home loss when leading at half-time in 42 years.

With a new surface now in place, United will hope to create better memories. The fresh pitch is intended to support high-quality football, and fans will look for an upturn at Old Trafford.
