Manchester United face Athletic Club in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final this evening.
The Red Devils boast a 3-0 advantage from the first meeting after a dream night in Bilbao. Casemiro opened the scoring for Manchester United, with Bruno Fernandes also on target twice. Fernandes has now scored 27 career goals in this competition, with only Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Radamel Falcao having netted more.
United are languishing in 15th in the Premier League table but can secure Champions League qualification by winning this tournament. Either Bodo/Glimt or Tottenham await in the final, should Ruben Amorim’s side avoid surrendering their sizeable advantage.
Ruben Amorim has been delighted to welcome back Amad Diallo to his squad, with the winger scoring in the weekend defeat to Brentford. Mason Mount also registered his first goal in over a year with the injury-hit midfielder working his way back to full fitness.
Amorim confirmed that Matthijs de Ligt is unavailable after missing training this week. The Dutch defender joins long-term knee victim Lisandro Martinez and youngsters Ayden Heaven and Toby Collyer on the sidelines.
“It’s not a big issue, that is a good thing. He cannot play tomorrow,” Amorim said on De Ligt at his pre-match press conference.
“He’ll not play on Sunday [against West Ham United] but then we will check day-by-day. We will see. The rest, Ayden [Heaven] doesn’t recover, Toby [Collyer] is not available, I think that’s it.”
Manchester United predicted XI: Onana; Mazraoui, Lindelof, Maguire, Yoro, Dorgu; Ugarte, Casemiro; Garnacho, Fernandes, Hojlund.
