Manchester United want Manuel Ugarte to leave the Old Trafford club this summer and have communicated this to his representatives, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Man United are preparing for the transfer window and are closing in on a move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson.
The Red Devils want to strengthen in the middle of the park ahead of next season following the exit of Casemiro and are hoping to sign two or three players in the position.
Ugarte is not in Man United’s plans and the club have made it clear to the 25-year-old’s camp.
“For Manuel Ugarte, Man United have been quite clear with the camp of the player,” Romano revealed on his YouTube account this evening.
“They want Ugarte to go. What I can tell you now is Man United have been very clear. They want to make some space.”
The Uruguayan joined the Red Devils from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024 but has largely struggled to make positive impressions.
He made 45 appearances last term but has featured in 24 games this season and has not played since the 2-1 loss to Leeds United at Old Trafford last month despite being fit.
Man United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe is reportedly of the view that Ugarte should be sold and would not have been impressed with his performance from the Old Trafford directors’ box in his last game.
The £50.5 million the Red Devils spent on him has proven to be a waste of money and manager Michael Carrick will hope they get subsequent transfer decisions right.
They need better players if they are to challenge Arsenal and others for the Premier League title next term and impress on their return to the Champions League.
Selling Ugarte to raise funds makes sense and he is not the only player set to be sold in the coming weeks as Carrick plots a mini squad overhaul.
