Manchester United are monitoring West Ham United defender El Hadji Malick Diouf as they weigh up a summer move for a new left-back, according to the Guardian.
Man United are preparing for life back in the Champions League next term and are hoping to lure the West Ham full-back away from the London Stadium club.
The Hammers are aware of the Red Devils’ interest in the 21-year-old and at least one other leading Premier League club have looked at him.
Diouf joined West Ham from Slavia Prague in a £19 million deal last summer and has become one of their most important players following a challenging start to life in the English top-flight.
He has made 28 appearances for the Hammers, weighing in with five assists, and Man United have been impressed with his defensive and attacking abilities.
Luke Shaw has struggled with his fitness at times and the Red Devils want quality depth in the position going forward.
Diouf’s major strengths include his crossing, passing and ball interception, and Man United could do with such a talented left-back.
West Ham have yet to secure their Premier League status for the season, with two points keeping them away from the relegation zone ahead of the final four fixtures.
Getting relegated could see them lose Diouf and other top players, and the Red Devils and other suitors will be watching things with a keen eye.
Man United have also been watching West Ham midfielder Matheus Fernandes ahead of a potential transfer move in the summer and could end up signing two players from the club if they get relegated.
The Hammers play Brentford, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Leeds United in their remaining games and will need to put in some top performances to pick up much-needed points and secure safety.
