Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe reportedly met with head coach Ruben Amorim on Thursday.

According to the Athletic, Ratcliffe’s visit to Carrington was long planned as he flew into the club's training ground in a helicopter for a series of meetings, including time with Amorim.

It is understood that Man United's form was on the agenda and that Ratcliffe was seeking to work through issues facing Amorim at the club.

Despite splashing over £200million in the summer transfer window, Man Utd have endured a difficult start to the season.

After four Premier League games they sit 14th in the table with four points and were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by League Two Grimsby on penalties in round two last month.

Ratcliffe was also present at the Etihad Stadium last weekend as United slumped to a 3-0 loss in the Manchester derby as Amorim was criticised by Roy Keane and Gary Neville for his determination to stick to his preferred 3-4-3 formation.

Although, the Portuguese tactician has insisted he will not be pressured into changing his philosophy.

Speaking after the defeat to City, Amorim said: “There are a lot of things that you have no idea what happened during these months, but I accept that, but I'm not going to change.

“When I want to change my philosophy, I will change; if not, you have to change the man.

“We will talk about that every game, every game that we lose. I don't believe in that in the system or whatever. I play my way, and I'm going to play my way until I want to change.”

Man United host Chelsea on Saturday in what feels like a must-win game for Amorim.

However, as per the BBC, reports that Amorim has three games to save his job have been privately dismissed, although it is clear defeats by Chelsea, Brentford and Sunderland before the October international break would test the board’s faith to the maximum.
