A crowd of 4,827 was at Leigh Sports Village to see United’s long-awaited UWCL introduction but they had to come from behind to get back on level terms for next week’s second leg.

Mary Earps parried a strike from Sandy Baltimore, as a dominant PSG were unable to make a first-half break through and had Oriane Jean-Francois stretchered off.

Geyse and Leah Galton went close for Marc Skinner’s side before Tabitha Chawinga gave the visitors the lead, turning Baltimore’s ball past Earps.

With 20 minutes to go, Melvina Malard headed home from a Millie Turner corner, while a deflected flag-kick had to be cleared off the line by Marie-Antoinette Katoto.

Paris FC’s Gaëtane Thiney and Mathilde Bourdieu overturned the advantage gained through Wolfsburg’s Vivien Endemann, Alexandra Popp scoring either side of the hosts’ Julie Dufour for a 3-3 draw.

Eintracht Frankfurt put five past ten-player Sparta Praha who had Aneta Pochmanova sent off after 53 minutes, after which Laura Freigang grabbed a swift brace to complete her hat-trick.
