Manchester United travel to Brentford in the Premier League this weekend with confidence after their European exploits.
Ruben Amorim’s side beat Athletic Bilbao 3-0 in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday night, to take control of the tie. Success in Europe would salvage a disappointing Premier League campaign, in which the Red Devils reside in 14th in the table. Already guaranteed their lowest ever Premier League points total, the full focus is on European success.
Brentford have not given up hope of European qualification. An impressive 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest in midweek leaves the Bees in contention. Brentford are two points behind eighth-placed Fulham, a position that could secure Conference League qualification.
Ruben Amorim welcomed back Amad Diallo from injury in midweek, with the United boss calling the winger’s sooner-than-expected availability ‘massive’ for his side. Matthijs de Ligt also returned as a substitute after a recent spell on the sidelines.
United remain without Lisandro Martinez, Joshua Zirkzee, Toby Collyer, Ayden Heaven and Diogo Dalot. Amorim confirmed that he will rotate his team this weekend with Noussair Mazraoui set to sit out the trip to Brentford.
“Mazraoui cannot play, at limit of injury. We have to be clear, focus is to save players and be competitive,” he said on Thursday night.
“Players under risk of injury will not play. We will assess tomorrow [Friday] and next day [Saturday].”
Manchester United predicted XI: Onana; Dorgu, De Ligt, Maguire, Yoro, Shaw; Ugarte, Mainoo; Fernandes, Mount, Hojlund.
Brentford host Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday 4th May 2025. Kick-off in West London is 14:00 BST.
The fixture has not been selected for live TV coverage in the UK.
