Senne Lammens pushing for Old Trafford debut as Ruben Amorim ponders midfield reshuffle

Manchester United could hand a debut to Senne Lammens in today’s Premier League clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford, while Matheus Cunha is back from injury in a boost.

After another unconvincing performance in goal from Altay Bayindir in last weekend’s sobering 3-0 Manchester derby loss, it may be time for the under-fire Ruben Amorim to draft in the £18.2million Deadline Day signing from Royal Antwerp in Belgium.

Luke Shaw had a very difficult time at the Etihad Stadium as he marked the ruthless Erling Haaland, and could be dropped in favour of Harry Maguire, who has not started for United since the humiliating defeat by fourth-tier Grimsby in the Carabao Cup last month.

There is a decision to make in midfield too against Chelsea, as Kobbie Mainoo could be in line to start after impressing off the bench against City.

Speaking ahead of that match, Amorim said he thought Mainoo needed to improve in some areas, but added that he believed in the midfielder’s potential.

The 20-year-old’s mobility reinvigorated United somewhat in the late stages of that derby defeat, and he deserves a chance as Manuel Ugarte continues to struggle.

Benjamin Sesko also failed to impress against City, on just his second start for his new club. Amorim will be inclined to give him another chance to shine as he chases a first goal in red.

Cunha and Mason Mount will both be in the matchday squad, Amorim has confirmed, but likely will not be fit enough to start after injury. Diogo Dalot is still out along with long-term absentee Lisandro Martinez.

Predicted Manchester United XI (3-4-2-1): Lammens; Maguire, De Ligt, Yoro; Dorgu, Fernandes, Mainoo, Mazraoui; Amad, Mbeumo; Sesko

Injured: Dalot, Martinez
