Manchester United leadership have been giving more consideration to appointing Michael Carrick as permanent manager this summer, according to the Independent journalist Miguel Delaney.
He claimed in his ‘Inside Football’ bi-weekly newsletter that Carrick is in their thoughts following Thomas Tuchel’s decision to extend his England contract.
The German signed a new deal to stay as the Three Lions manager until 2028 despite well-connected industry figures earlier tipping him as one of the strongest candidates for the Old Trafford job.
The Red Devils have recorded four wins and one draw in five Premier League games under Carrick, and the performances have improved significantly.
Carrick is not guaranteed the job right now as Man United may still need to secure Champions League football at the end of the campaign for him to be considered.
The Red Devils are not back in action until February 23 with a trip to Merseyside to take on Everton before games against Crystal Palace and Newcastle United.
They are fourth in the table but have several teams breathing down their necks ahead of the final 12 games of the season.
Carrick will be desperate to pick up as many points as possible in those fixtures, and he needs his players to keep delivering.
