Manchester United have already spent over €160 million this transfer window and they are not done yet with another midfielder set to be added.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte has been the club’s top target since the window opened but due to PSR concerns, a permanent deal has been difficult to conclude.

INEOS’ initial plan was to try and move on Casemiro after a disastrous second season in Manchester and an equally disappointing pre-season.

However, no Saudi clubs came forward with a concrete bid while the Brazilian’s form improved once the season began and he is expected to remain at Old Trafford.

Ugarte deal hanging in the balance

Scott McTominay’s exit is close to materialising with Napoli close to sealing the Scottish star’s signature. United still need to agree a pay-off as per reports.

Once this deal gets over the line, the Red Devils are expected to complete a deal for the Uruguayan. Whether it will be a permanent deal or a loan with an obligation to buy remains to be seen.

Many outlets have termed the deal to be very close to completion with the player ready to depart for England once he receives the green light.

But as per Football Transfers, there are still details to be ironed out between both clubs and while a deal is still expected to be completed, it will not be done anytime soon. It is expected to drag on till deadline day.

“Manchester United’s deal for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte is in its advanced stages but no move is imminent despite reports to the contrary, FootballTransfers can reveal.

“An unnamed source has told us that the transfer is “definitely not close” and is expected to drag on until Transfer Deadline Day, 30 August.

“The likelihood remains strong that Ugarte will be a Man Utd player before the window closes, but there are still a few obstacles to iron out before any deal is sealed.”

Not before deadline day

The major hold-up as been because the Parisian outfit have refused to incur a loss on their initial €70 million investment while United have refused to pay as much for a player who is not in Luis Enrique’s plans.

He was also dropped from the matchday squad for both league games and PSG have already recruited a replacement.

It is natural for United to try and agree a deal at a lower price point. As relayed by The Peoples Person, Qatar might be taking United on a ride since their rejection with this deal.

After the defeat against Brighton and with McTominay set to depart, it is important United agree a deal before the Liverpool game but that might not be the case if the aforementioned report is true.

Only time will tell but hopefully, United get this deal over the line instead of scrambling for an alternative on deadline day.
