Maniche slams ‘fake’ quotes about Ronaldo and urges fans to check sources | OneFootball

Maniche has denied authoring a viral statement attacking Cristiano Ronaldo, calling it fabricated in an Instagram post. According to Goal.com, the former Atletico Madrid and Porto midfielder urged an end to the spread of lies.

He shared an image of the alleged quote labelled fake, headed Alert: fake quote. The bogus text claimed unrest in the Portugal squad because discussion always centres on Ronaldo, and contrasted Argentina’s smooth post-Messi transition with Portugal being stuck with a player who tolerates no other star.

Maniche said the words were not his, that people without conscience had created and circulated them to stir noise and division at a sensitive moment for the national team. He added that he does not recognise the stance attributed to him and that he speaks his mind openly and in his own name. He also urged followers to verify sources before sharing, arguing that lies spread only when people pass them on.

His denial arrived amid a crisis between Ronaldo and Portugal coach Jorge Jesus, which peaked when the forward walked out of the camp in Copenhagen after spending the entire match against Norway on the substitutes’ bench.

Portugal face Norway again on Sunday evening in Porto, without Ronaldo.
