Golden Arrows head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has shared his thoughts on the early race for the Betway Premiership title in the 2025/26 season.
Kaizer Chiefs, along with Limpopo club Sekhukhune United have emerged as current frontrunners for the championship, having both accumulated 13 points after five matches.
While the defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns are in third place and two points adrift the summit of the table, Babina Noko top the standings with a superior goal difference over second-placed Chiefs.
The Arrows mentor is pleased with the possibility of a title race to end Downs’ recent monopoly of a record-extending eight consecutive championship.
“Personally, I’m impressed with how the league looks like because I like competition, I like a contest, I like each and every coach to dig a little bit deeper to try and transform his team so that we can see improvement of the players, improvement of the team,” said Mngqithi.
“When there is no clear front runner, I think it makes the competition and the contest a little bit more interesting and personally I am impressed. I think this one can come with a lot of surprises and I like it like this.
Meanwhile, the KZN-based outfit, currently in ninth place after losing their last league outing to Kaizer Chiefs, will be determined to get back to winning ways when they face Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba on Wednesday, 17 September after the FIFA international break.
