Manu, former Portuguese winger, dies at 43 in road accident

Former Portuguese winger Manu has died in a road accident at the age of 43 in Vermões, in the Sobral region.

FC Alverca, where he made his senior debut in 2000, said in a post on X that it was deeply saddened and offered condolences to his family, friends and all who shared his life and career.

He later represented Benfica, Estrela da Amadora, Maritimo and Vitoria Setubal.

Manu played 130 matches in the Portuguese top flight, scoring 13 goals and providing 7 assists.

His only trophies came in Poland, lifting the Polish Cup with Legia Warsaw in 2011 and 2012.
