As reported by Florian Plettenberg, Manuel Neuer will miss Bayern Munich’s second-leg Champions League tie against Inter this week, while a new comeback date has been set.
As such, youngster Jonas Urbig will start between the posts once again. It’ll be his 9th appearance for Bayern as they seek to overturn a 1-2 deficit in Milan and earn a place in the Champions League semi-finals.
Since stepping in as Bayern number one, Urbig has failed to keep a clean sheet. Earning one this week against Inter will be a huge feat and give Bayern a massive chance of progressing in the competition.
Neuer is continuing his rehabilitation at Bayern and training on his own for the time being. What’s more, the veteran shot-stopper has already been ruled out of this weekend’s Bundesliga tie against FC Heidenheim this weekend.
Instead, the 39-year-old is expected to return on April 26th versus Mainz 05. It’s potentially the ideal time for Neuer’s comeback against a top-four rival as Bayern seek to clinch yet another Bundesliga title.
