Bayern Munich have announced Manuel Neuer has suffered a left calf injury, leaving his availability in doubt for next Saturday's German Cup final against Stuttgart at 20:00. The club said in a statement that no recovery timeframe was given for the 40-year-old.

Neuer was withdrawn in the second half of Saturday's 5-1 win over Cologne on the final day of the Bundesliga season.

The setback comes just after he extended his contract with Bayern until 2027. It is already his third issue with the same calf in recent months.

In mid-February he left the pitch against Werder Bremen, then suffered a relapse in early March against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Those problems saw him miss the Champions League last 16 versus Atalanta Bergamo, which finished 10-2 on aggregate.

Retired from international duty since Euro 2024, Neuer had nevertheless been linked with a possible Germany return before the 2026 World Cup, 11 June to 19 July. He was reportedly included by Julian Nagelsmann on an expanded provisional list sent to FIFA, with the final squad due on Thursday.
