Many Rangers fans are convinced Danny Rohl is the real deal

Ibrox Noise realised last night how truly complacent some Rangers fans have become about Danny Rohl. It was a great night. We loved the Hollywood moment of unveiling the new signings, especially Andreas Skov Olsen. We also won, of course, 5-0, fairly comfortably, with a sterling free kick from Thelo Aasgaard in there too. So all was good at the end of the night. Even Kieran Dowell scored. You know it is a blue moon when that happens, along with a Rothwell assist. Consequently, there was a good feeling.
However, we had to laugh when some Rangers fan left a comment on a particular theme. It showed how fickle and easily pleased some fans have become. It also showed how many fail to remember where we still are. The comment criticised our criticism of the appointment of Danny Rohl. Something almost all fans shared at the time. It told us we had to make a post apologising for our comments. Sorry guys, we stand by every word we said.
We are still not convinced by Danny Rohl yet. We have realised we will not be convinced until we win 2IAR. The simple fact is Rangers have been in the doldrums for so long. A 5-0 win against the fourth bottom team in the SPFL proves little.
It does not prove Danny Rohl is the right man. He is doing more of the right things. But he is also making small mistakes. There have been quibbles with his management. It has not all been plain sailing. Many complain about Lyall Cameron, and there remain questions about Findlay Curtis too.
We are in a much better position than we were under the vegan. Of that there is no doubt. But he took the job purely for the payday. He wanted to get rich. He had no interest in Rangers. His attitude reflected that.
Rohl has said the right things. He has done many right things. In general, Danny Rohl has been more positive than Russell Martin ever was. But he has also made some massive gaffes.
Let us not forget how poor he has been in Europe. He has been absolutely atrocious at that level. He did beat Celtic away. That was a huge result. But it was against an atrocious Celtic manager.
Celtic still outplayed him for 60 minutes. It was a beautiful smash and grab. We are not sure Danny Rohl deserves all the credit. Jack Butland played a massive role.
He has done well in the league. We are second in the league. But second is not good enough for Rangers. That mindset shows how badly we were gaslit before. Russell Martin especially played a role in that. In making us praise a manager who has us second, just like Clement and Beale did.
Rangers fans are praising a 5-0 win over Annan. They are praising second place. We need proof in the pudding. We need to be top. And we need to be top for an extended period. We need control.
We need to look like proper old Rangers. Once we see that, we will accept we were wrong about Rohl. He has not exactly reached that point yet.
He drew with Falkirk. He barely drew with Dundee United. He lost to MON’s Celtic in the cup. He was destroyed by Hearts at Tynecastle. And his Euro results have been shocking.
There is still work to be done. When Hearts come to Ibrox, that is the big one. If he beats Hearts at home, that matters. McInnes has an on form side. They are top of the table by merit.
If we win that game, things may change. That would look more like the real deal. We know we sound grumpy on Ibrox Noise. We know we sound negative. But we have seen false dawns before. Too many times.
We saw this under Philippe Clement. We saw it under Michael Beale. We have seen it all before. Anything looked better after Russell Martin. That is the truth.
Rohl is doing no better than Clement or Beale did. That is the irony. So what matters now is winning. He must win consistently. And right now he is doing that. He couldn’t be doing more than that at the moment.
If he wins two leagues in a row, we will admit we were wrong. Not one. Two. We will happily publish an A4 apology. We want to be wrong.
We want Rangers winning like the old days. But a 5-0 win over Annan does not convince us. A loss to Hearts does not help. Danny Rohl is not yet proven he’s the answer. Hopefully, he proves us wrong.
