Auxerre beat Angers 3-1 on Sunday at Stade de l'Abbé Deschamps, ending a four-match winless run as Sekou Mara struck twice and Theo de Percin saved a penalty.
In the 12th minute, Mara swept home from close range to set the tone for the hosts. Angers' Amine Sbaï then received a second yellow and was sent off in the first minute of first half stoppage time.
After the restart, a Bryan Okoh handball led to a spot kick for Angers. VAR confirmed the decision, but Branco Van den Boomen was denied from 12 yards by de Percin (51.).
Mara doubled the lead with a crisp finish (61.), before Lassine Sinayoko added a third from Mara's pass on the break (67.). Angers pulled one back when VAR confirmed another penalty for a Danny Namaso handball and Goduine Koyalipou converted low to the right (77.).
Auxerre carried the greater threat, registering 19 attempts with 10 on target. Angers mustered nine efforts as Hervé Koffi made seven saves to limit further damage.
