Iconic World Cup shirts worn by Maradona in 1986 and Harald Schumacher in 1982 headline an auction at Drouot in Paris on Saturday, staged by Maison Millon. According to L'Équipe, many items come from the collections of Maxime Bossis and Jean-Marie Pfaff.
Bossis won 76 caps for France, Pfaff was capped 64 times by Belgium. The pair met three times, most recently on 28 June 1986 in Puebla, when France won the third-place play-off 4-2.
Among the 310 lots, the standout piece is Diego Maradona’s shirt from Argentina’s 2-0 semi-final win over Belgium in 1986. He scored twice, then swapped with the Bayern Munich goalkeeper after the match. Maradona signed it in 2016, and it is estimated at 350,000 to 400,000 euros.
Lots from Bossis’s collection are far more affordable. They include worn or swapped kits, pennants, his 1986 bronze medal and an Adidas Challenger tracksuit from the Mexican World Cup, estimated at 300 to 400 euros.
Also listed is the famous red shirt worn by Harald Schumacher in the 1982 semi-final, West Germany versus France, which ended 3-3 after extra time and 5-4 on penalties. The match is remembered for his unpunished challenge on Patrick Battiston, and the shirt is estimated at 12,000 to 15,000 euros.
