When the FIFA World Cup began, Real Madrid had no representative in the Spanish national team and a lot was said about the same. After all, it was the first time that even a single player of the club did not make the cut.

Florentino Perez, however, turned that situation around with an unprecedented masterstroke – he signed Marc Cucurella from Chelsea overnight and reinforced the left-back position while also securing a regular Spanish international.

So far in the World Cup, Cucurella has started both of Spain’s games and played all 90 minutes. He has contributed to both of the team’s clean sheets and has been inspiring in the final third as an attacking outlet as well.

Cucurella’s interview

Real Madrid’s new defensive signing, Marc Cucurella, spoke to the media recently about his personal life, his style of play, and even his move to Real Madrid.

The player began by explaining what he expects of his winger as a full-back to maximise chemistry on the field.

“I always tell my winger to do whatever he wants and I do what he doesn’t want, the dirty work, so that he can feel good.”

He then opened up on his personal life and spoke on how his son, unfortunately, was autistic, but how he always took the silver lining from the same.

“I think everyone already knows that my son has autism. It didn’t change my life, it just makes you appreciate it more.”

“I wouldn’t go to any team where I couldn’t find schools or therapies that would suit my son. My family comes first. It’s incredibly important to us,” he added as one of the factors he considered before making his transfer decision.

The player then opened up on how the entire Real Madrid transfer saga unfolded and how Los Blancos’ interest appeared out of the blue.

“I found out about Real Madrid’s interest two days before it became official. I didn’t believe it at first, it happened so fast. I said yes without hesitation.”

“Opportunities like this come once in a lifetime and you can’t turn them down,” he added.

As a former Barcelona player, his move to Real Madrid created reasonable controversy, and the player responded to the same saying,

“There was no interest from Barcelona, but there was from Atletico.”

“The important thing is that it’s done, that I’m a Real Madrid player, that we win titles again, and that I enjoy the experience,” he added.
