Defender was forced off at half-time against Leeds
Marc Cucurella is set for scans on a hamstring injury that forced him off at half-time in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Leeds.
Cucurella started at left-back for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday but was withdrawn at half-time with a suspected hamstring injury.
That meant summer signing Jorrel Hato came on at the beginning of the second half as his replacement.
Chelsea gained a 2-0 lead in the game following goals by Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer, but Leeds claimed a draw from two goals down with a penalty by Lukas Nmecha and a tap-in from Noah Okafor after a defensive mix-up at the back for the Blues.
Cucurella has played a lot of football of late and may well have been handed a much-needed rest in Friday’s FA Cup game at Hull City if he had not succumbed to a hamstring issue in the draw with Leeds.
Speaking after the game, head coach Liam Rosenior gave an update on Cucurella’s situation.
Rosenior said: “Unfortunately at half-time he felt his hamstring. It wasn’t a tactical change — it was one that was enforced.
“Cucu is one who has been top, and hopefully he will be okay. We will scan him and make sure we find out if he is available for the next game.”
