Marcelino will bring up 200 official matches as Villarreal head coach against Getafe, underlining his stature at the club. According to Superdeporte, the landmark arrives at the weekend.
He has already overtaken Manuel Pellegrini for La Liga games in charge of Villarreal, with the Chilean at 190. Marcelino has reached 199 league fixtures and is set to make it 200 this weekend.
His Villarreal record stands at 96 wins, 50 draws and 52 defeats, a return that yields a win rate close to 48%.
His contract expires on 30 June and what happens beyond that remains open. He kept his counsel in his latest press conference, saying the right moment will come to consider the future and that the priority now is the football.
He called the league season extraordinary and difficult to repeat. Assessing Getafe, he predicted a demanding game against a team that concede little, play very directly and force maximum concentration.
Marcelino also praised Alberto Moleiro’s recent progress, highlighting his adaptation, timing, inside-channel role and generosity, while crediting team-mates for complementing him. The Gijón-born coach now totals 464 top-flight matches in Spain, underlining his longevity.
