Liam McCarron, the former Leeds United youngster who made a Premier League debut under Marcelo Bielsa, has stepped into non-league with Boston United for the rest of 2025/26.
The club said in a statement that the left-sided attacker has signed until the end of the season, has been given squad number 45 and was eligible to face Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday. He then came off the bench in a 3-2 win.
The Pilgrims are 10th in the Vanarama National League.
McCarron joined Leeds from Carlisle United aged 18 in 2019, initially with the under-21s while often training with the first team. He made his Premier League debut off the bench in the 4-1 defeat at Arsenal in December 2021, his only Leeds outing.
He left for Stoke City on a three-year deal in June 2022, later moving to League One Northampton. Now 24, he continues his drop down the divisions with Boston at the Jakemans Community Stadium.
He is one of several Bielsa-era debutants now in lower leagues. Stuart McKinstry, who had four minutes against Tottenham in November 2021, is with Scottish League One Hamilton Academical, while Lewis Bate plays for League One Stockport County.
Tyler Roberts, a key Bielsa figure, made 108 Leeds appearances, including 50 in the Premier League, scoring nine goals. He spent 2022 on loan at Queens Park Rangers, left permanently for a four-year deal at Birmingham City in 2023, and now, at 27, plays for League One Mansfield Town.
