Marcelo Paz says Corinthians and Memphis Depay want a renewal, but only on a redesigned deal to replace the contract that runs to 20 June. He adds the striker is engaged in lifting standards at the club.

“Our relationship with Memphis is very direct. He knows we want him to stay, he says he wants to stay, and he knows he will need a new contract model to do so, which he has accepted,” he told ESPN on Monday.

The agreement signed in September 2024 carries a signing-on fee, appearance, goal and assist bonuses, plus salary and image rights worth about R$ 3 million monthly. Esportes da Sorte no longer allocates roughly R$ 57 million exclusively to his deal, and Memphis is still due R$ 40 million. Paz said any renewal must be on considerably lower overall terms.

To fund a new package, at least six companies are in talks, and Corinthians could also approach shirt sponsor Ezze Seguros. Discussions with Esportes da Sorte have cooled and they are not expected to be the partner. Memphis has hired a marketing specialist and is promoting off-pitch improvements informed by time at Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, Lyon and Manchester United.

After two months out, he returned with minutes in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Atlético Mineiro. He is expected to face Platense of Argentina in the Copa Libertadores on Wednesday, before an imminent Netherlands call-up. Paz said talks can continue daily and he hopes to resolve matters before the World Cup, while respecting any national-team restrictions.
