Marcelo Teixeira argues only three clubs should be relegated in Brasileirão

Santos president Marcelo Teixeira has called for the Brasileirão to relegate only three clubs, saying the current four is too many.

"It is a criterion that needs to be studied for future Brasileirão seasons. The number of clubs relegated is very high for the competition. We have four going down. The ideal would be three, it would be fairer, especially for promotion," he told Rádio Bandeirantes.

"It would ensure that clubs coming up from the second division also have a chance to remain. I believe that, given the level of the Brasileirão, three would be perfect."

It is not the first time he has floated the idea, having raised it in other interviews in 2024.

Santos were relegated for the first time in 2023 and secured promotion as champions last year.

They spent time in the relegation zone last season but finished 12th.
