Marcelo Teixeira has defended Santos’ transfer strategy, saying the club will prioritise financially compatible deals over eye-catching fees.
According to Diario Do Peixe, the president said Santos cannot match the biggest domestic spenders and is focusing on medium-value signings with staged payments that protect cash flow.
He pointed to the arrival of defender Lucas Veríssimo from Al Duhail for four million euros, paid in four annual instalments through 2029.
The window underscored the gap to rivals. Flamengo spent R$ 341.44 million on three signings, the largest financial move in the club’s recent history, while Palmeiras invested R$ 192.132 million on two players.
By comparison, Santos’ outlay was about R$ 93.507 million across six deals.
Other permanent additions included midfielder Christian Oliva from Nacional for one and a half million dollars, forward Rony from Atlético-MG for three million euros, and Moisés from Fortaleza for two million euros.
Loan deals also featured. Gabriel Barbosa joined from Cruzeiro, who are covering most of his wages, while midfielder Gabriel Menino arrived from Atlético Mineiro on loan with a purchase clause, in a move that facilitated the release of another player to Atlético Mineiro.
