A Leeds undertaker has unveiled a Leeds United-themed hearse, giving supporters a distinctive way to honour the club on their final journey.
Lewis Northing, 21, said the idea came after a relative, a lifelong Leeds United supporter, died recently. “We’ve got the Leeds badge on the front and the deck inside where the coffin goes. We’ve had the entire car wrapped as well with a Leeds United theme,” he told yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk.
Launched at the end of last year, the Ford Cardinal, originally manufactured in Australia, is wrapped in blue and yellow. It carries the Leeds United badge on the bonnet and a large Elland Road mural.
The hearse also bears the club’s “Marching On Together” slogan along its side, with “We Love You Leeds” across the rear.
“They’re all just so shocked because it’s completely unique. There’s not another one in the world. People have emailed to ask for prices, so they can start planning now.”
The vehicle has already been used for a funeral in Rothwell, with further bookings confirmed and interest stretching across Leeds and as far as Northampton.
Northing believes demand for club-themed hearses is growing as families move away from traditional black vehicles in favour of personalised choices. He said similar designs for other clubs could follow, and that the vehicle could soon become a familiar sight at funerals for devoted Leeds United fans.
