According to Fabrizio Romano, Marco Asensio (28) is set to remain at Paris Saint-Germain beyond Thursday’s transfer deadline, despite reported interest from Bayer Leverkusen.

Asensio joined PSG on a free transfer from Real Madrid in the summer, however, his debut season at the Parc des Princes has been disrupted by injuries. Having made his return from a foot injury, which had sidelined the Spain international for almost three months, at the start of December, he has flitted in and out of the squad.

He has four goals for PSG this season, including one against Stade Brestois last weekend. However, Sky Germany reported that Asensio’s time with Les Parisiens could be an ephemeral one. The publication reported that Bayer Leverkusen had held talks over a move, but added that a transfer could be difficult.

And so it has proved. According to Romano, Asensio will not be leaving PSG this month. The Spaniard, whose contract with Les Parisiens runs until 2026, will therefore complete the season at the Parc des Princes.
