Lazio coach Marco Baroni might have some selection dilemmas ahead of the weekend’s contest against Parma, as Boulaye Dia and Matias Vecino could be forced to forfeit.
The two players were in the starting lineup in Thursday’s stalemate against Ludogorets in the Europa League. However, the Senegalese striker left the pitch at the interval after taking a blow to the ankle that caused some swelling. On the other hand, the Uruguayan suffered a muscle problem, as he felt a strain in his flexor during the second half.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Dia and Vecino will undergo medical tests in the coming hours to shed more light on their conditions. Lazio will be hoping that the duo avoid any injuries, but even if they were to be deemed fit enough for a call-up against Parma, they’re highly unlikely to start at the Ennio Tardini.
Therefore, Baroni will have to come up with new solutions. Dia could be replaced by Tijjani Noslin or Pedro in the attacking-midfielder role. But as the source notes, the Dutchman has been a shadow of the player who delighted Verona last season, while the 37-year-old Spaniard risks being burnt out.
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru could emerge as a solution for this role, but it could leave Matteo Guendouzi and Nicolo Rovella without any backups on the bench, especially with Gaetano Castrovilli still on the sidelines.
Finally, the source reveals that Nuno Tavares will skip the weekend trip to Parma as well as the Coppa Italia clash against Napoli, but could make his much-anticipated return in next weekend’s encounter against the Partenopei.
