Marco Ruben, 39, is coming out of retirement for a fifth stint at Rosario Central, where he is the club’s all-time leading scorer. The club said in social media posts that he is returning.
Saturday’s posts began with images from his earlier spells. A later video centred on the word vuelta, finishing with Ruben saying it was not a return because he had never really left.
A final clip showed Ruben arriving at the club and greeting Ángel Di María.
His previous spells were 2004-2007, then in 2015, 2021 and 2024. Across 282 appearances he has scored 106 goals.
He played a central role in the 2018 Copa Argentina triumph, won on penalties against Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata.
Ruben is leaving retirement for a second time, having previously stepped away in 2022 and again in 2024. Central face a significant 2026, aiming to compete domestically and prioritising the Copa Libertadores, their first participation since 2024. The club’s best Libertadores run came in 2001, when they reached the semi-finals.
