Marco Silva keeps Manu Silva at Benfica after doubts over future | OneFootball

Manu Silva will remain in Benfica’s first-team squad for 2026/27 after a pre-season that had cast doubt on his future. According to Glorioso 1904, the Portuguese midfielder has convinced head coach Marco Silva and his staff.

Primarily a defensive midfielder, he also operated at centre-back during the friendly against Villarreal, coming on to replace Clément Lenglet, a flexibility valued by the coaching team.

He joined from Vitória de Guimarães in January 2025 for around 12 million euros and initially struggled at the Luz because of a serious injury.

Now 25, he is under contract until June 2030. Last season the Portugal international featured in 12 competitive matches, totalling 258 minutes.

Unable to establish himself under José Mourinho, largely due to fitness issues, Manu Silva is preparing for a fresh start at Benfica as he targets a more prominent role under Marco Silva.
