Marco Silva is weighing a late call for Jhon Durán as Benfica chase a Europa League turnaround against St. Gallen on Thursday.

According to Glorioso 1904, the Colombian is registered for European competition and, with improved fitness, could be included in the squad. Benfica lost 2-1 in Switzerland and must overturn the tie at Estádio da Luz to avoid an early drop into the Conference League.

Durán has joined on loan from Al Nassr in a deal worth 6.1 million euros, with a 30 million option to buy. He was not called up for the first leg due to limited training time after arriving at Seixal.

After more than a week working with the group, he has built rhythm and may make the bench. If Benfica require a late catalyst, he could make his official debut.

Silva believes Durán’s pace, power, movement and finishing could add a different dimension to an attack led by Vangelis Pavlidis, who should keep his place.

Despite mixed spells at Fenerbahçe and Zenit, Durán arrived motivated and impressed in a friendly against Belenenses, scoring one and setting up another. With Benfica needing a win, there is growing anticipation that their marquee signing of this window could see his first competitive minutes and begin to justify the backing of the Rui Costa-led hierarchy.
