Marco Silva's Benfica put six past Hearts | OneFootball

Hearts have virtually no chance of progressing to the Europa League after being thrashed 6-1 by Benfica in Lisbon.

Marco Silva's side dismantled the Scots with Rafa Silva opening the scoring in the sixth minute after the Eagles cut through the defence.

The lead was doubled by a set-piece with an out-swinging corner by Georgiy Sudakov that Tomás Araújo rose highest to head home.

It was three shortly before the break after an unnecessary foul by Laurent Mendy resulted in a penalty with Greek striker Vangelis Pavlidis slotting home.

The fourth goal arrived with just under an hour gone as Gianluca Prestianni won the ball back on the edge of the Hearts area before then curling his effort past Beau Reus.

The visitors did pull one goal back through substitute Tom Renaud who slotted in low after some nice one-touch football.

Two late goals effectively killed this tie off for good though. First in the 87th minute former Aston Villa man Jhon Durán finished off Andreas Schjelderup's cut-back.

Then in stoppage time Schjelderup made it 6-1 when he scored a second penalty after a handball was given against Wouter Vrancken's side.

That makes it four defeats out of four so far for Hearts in all competitions, all they can do in the second leg is to hope to restore some pride in front of their own fans.
