Flamengo have dismissed head coach Filipe Luís in the early hours of Tuesday, three March, hours after an 8-0 win over Madureira in the Carioca semi-final second leg. Former club executive Marcos Braz sent a public message wishing him well.

After Monday, two March, Filipe Luís held his post-match press conference. He was then told by director José Boto that his tenure would not continue.

Braz wished Filipe Luís good luck for the rest of his career, said it had been a pleasure to sign him as a player and later back him as a coach, noted they were champions together in both spells, and offered his thanks.

According to Coluna Do Fla, Leonardo Jardim is among the leading options to take over, and had already been at the top of the list while Filipe Luís was still in charge. The Portuguese, who coached Cruzeiro in 2025, is viewed favourably by the board led by Boto.

The club had also sounded out Jardim during the stand-off over Filipe Luís’s renewal. He was open to talks, but Flamengo finalised that new deal and paused discussions with the Portuguese.

Flamengo now turn to the Campeonato Carioca final. They face Fluminense at the Maracanã on Sunday, eight March, at 18:00 Brasília time.
