Manchester United have ambitious plans for the summer window, and much of this depends on Champions League qualification and outgoings.
INEOS have kept ready two sets of targets, contingent on where the team finishes this season. If United secure a top-four finish, the co-owners can genuinely pursue their priority targets using the increased financial pool.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is also eager to sell players as effectively, while trimming a bloated wage bill. Casemiro, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia are all expected to depart, bringing the wage bill down considerably.
The Red Devils plan to raise cash by selling several of their loanees, including Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford.
While the Dane was considered a sureshot departure, Barcelona’s dilly-dallying over the Mancunian meant there were question marks regarding his future.
But finally, the Catalan giants seem to have stumbled upon the perfect payment plan after months of trying to bring the Englishman’s €30 million buy option down.
Considering the Carrington graduate has 10 goals and 13 assists from only 20 starts across all competitions, the LaLiga giants would have been foolish to overlook such a favourable clause.
Good sense has finally prevailed at Camp Nou, with Mundo Deportivo reporting that Barca will match United’s valuation, but will pay the €30 million in three separate instalments.
“Marcus Rashford (28 years old) is very likely to continue wearing the FC Barcelona jersey next season.
“For his rights to become the property of Barça, the Catalan club only needs to exercise the purchase option valued at 30 million euros.
“The payment method has even been agreed with the Old Trafford club, with three annual instalments of 10 million euros.”
Personal terms have already been agreed between the forward and the club, and he is expected to take a pay cut to stay.
United will not mind. Despite Michael Carrick’s desire for a reunion, and the 20-time English league champions’ lack of a left winger, it is clear that bringing Marcus Rashford back is not the solution.
This saga needed to come to an end, and finally, it seems the fans will get their wish.
