The sacking of Ruben Amorim, the former Manchester United head coach, has thrown the future of one United player into doubt.

Marcus Rashford

Rashford was banished by Ruben Amorim from the first team squad in December 2024 and was promptly sent out on loan to Aston Villa for the second half of the 2024-25 season.

He also departed this summer to FC Barcelona on loan, where he has been in productive form, especially in the Champions League.

The 28-year-old now has nine goals and 12 assists for the Catalans in all competitions, including nine goal contributions in eight Champions League appearances.

Rashford has explained in previous interviews that he wants to stay permanently at Barcelona, and the club also seem keen to keep him.

Nonetheless, the sacking of Amorim may mean there is an avenue back for Rashford at his boyhood club.

In this period of uncertainty, The Peoples Person asked its readers to tell us what they feel would be the correct decision by the club when it comes to Rashford’s future.

Clean Slate

Interestingly, the most popular opinion was to offer Rashford a clean slate and reintegrate him back into the squad. 35% of fans felt that this would be the best course of action.

With United moving back to a back four and more traditional wide players, there could be a way back for Rashford into the team from the left, especially with Bryan Mbeumo and Amad being more comfortable on the right wing.

Sell him

At the other end of the scale, 28% percent of those who voted in the poll feel that the player’s time at the club is over.

United fans are happy with the new signings of Matheus Cunha and Mbeumo, and Rashford is doing very well at FC Barcelona. What’s more, shedding Rashford’s salary off the wage bill would free up even more spending money in United’s pursuit of midfielders this summer.

Sell him if price is right

21% feel that selling the academy graduate is the right choice, but only if Barcelona or another suitor pay the correct fee.

It is reported that Barcelona have an agreement to sign the player for £26 million in the summer, but some fans feel that any price lower than this is not worth doing business at.

Follow his wishes

14% of kind-hearted readers feel that the club owe Rashford the right to choose whatever he wants to do. Should he decide to stay in Barcelona, he must be allowed, or if he fancies returning to his boyhood club, he must also be obliged.

Finally, just 2% of supporters who voted believe that another loan is a fair option, something Barcelona have apparently floated in recent negotiations.

Most fans want to draw a line under the Rashford affair one way or another, and with good reason as the club looks to move onto pastures new.
