Marcus Rashford receives early welcome from former England forward who made 138 appearances for Barcelona | OneFootball

It has been quite some time since FC Barcelona have been trying to add a new left winger to their squad, and they have been linked with several high-profile players for this purpose in the last few weeks and months.

Some weeks ago, their most preferred target was the Athletic Club star Nico Williams. However, the Spaniard renewed his contract with the Basque club till 2035, and thus is no longer a viable target for the Blaugranes.

As things stand, the Catalans are now close to signing another player for this position, i.e., the Manchester United star Marcus Rashford. In fact, some reports suggest that his signing on loan is only a matter of hours now, and Barcelona will have the option to sign him permanently as well.

The fans are already excited about this new arrival and have been showing this excitement on social media. However, as SPORT has reported, this has also been the case with the former Blaugrana player Gary Lineker, who changed his profile picture on Instagram.

The new picture shows him, during his time as a player, next to Rashford, and both players wearing number 10 shirts.

Lineker played 138 games for Barcelona, scoring 51 goals, and became a beloved player for the fans, who still remember him fondly.

For now, Rashford only needs to pass his medical to finalize his move to the Catalan side, and hopefully, his addition will prove fruitful for Barcelona. Hansi Flick himself has been integral in this operation, as he pushed the club to work on his signing.

Although other players like Nico Williams and Luis Diaz might have been more appealing for the fans, there is no doubt that Marcus Rashford would also be an interesting addition, and there would also be very little risk involved for Barcelona, as it would not require as much of an investment as these other transfers would.
