Manchester United have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Bournemouth forward Marcus Tavernier.

United are expected to make an attacking signing this summer – a need that has been made more urgent by the expected permanent exits of Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.

Rashford is looking increasingly likely to join Barcelona permanently while Sancho is set to be released upon the expiry of his contract at Old Trafford.

Some of the players United continue to be linked to include Yan Diomande (RB Leipzig), Mateus Mane (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Anthony Gordon (Newcastle) and of course, Tavernier.

Now in his fourth full season at Bournemouth, Tavernier has cemented his status as a bona fide Premier League forward. His contributions have been vital to Bournemouth’s transformation, with the club now moving clear of the relegation battles that once defined their seasons.

So far this term, Tavernier has netted five goals and provided four assists in 25 Premier League appearances.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United admire Tavernier, who is also of interest to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

It was stated that Bournemouth value the 26-year-old at around £40 million.

Football Insider have issued an update, indicating that Bournemouth would likely accept United’s offer for Tavernier, even though they do not want to lose him.

According to the news outlet, “AFC Bournemouth are ready to “reluctantly” accept an offer for Manchester United target Marcus Tavernier this summer.”

“The Cherries are expected to find it ‘difficult’ to keep hold of the 26-year-old during the upcoming transfer window, despite the fact that he is not one of the Red Devils’ priority targets at the moment.”

While Bournemouth are under no pressure to sell Tavernier, it’s said that they are “inclined to accept any satisfactory bids.”

Andoni Iraola’s side are “resigned to the fact” that they will lose their key players once again.

It remains to be seen whether United press ahead with plans to lure Tavernier to their ranks, but this development will certainly come as welcome news.
