Inter Milan forward Marcus Thuram (27) will likely remain at the club this summer after his €85m release clause expired earlier this week, as reported by Matteo Moretto and Fabrizio Romano. The French international’s clause was valid until Monday, meaning any club willing to match that figure could have triggered his departure without negotiation. With that window now closed, Inter retain full control over the player’s future.
Thuram joined the Nerazzurri in 2023 on a free transfer from Borussia Mönchengladbach and signed a five-year deal running until 2028. The 2022 World Cup finalist enjoyed a standout debut campaign in Italy, scoring 14 goals and earning a place in the Serie A Team of the Season, as Inter claimed the Scudetto under Simone Inzaghi.
The former Guingamp and Sochaux youth product also lifted the Supercoppa Italiana in 2023, continuing to grow his list of honours after previously winning the Coupe de la Ligue in France. His physical presence, off-ball intelligence, and decisive finishing have made him a key figure in Inzaghi’s attacking setup.
Internationally, Thuram remains a fixture in Didier Deschamps’ squad. He featured for France at this summer’s UEFA Nations League, where Les Bleus secured third place, adding to a burgeoning international résumé that includes a run to the World Cup final in Qatar and a UEFA U-19 Euro title back in 2016.
With no club having activated his now-expired clause, any side hoping to sign Thuram must now negotiate directly with the reigning Champions League runners-up—a far more complex task given his status within the squad and his long-term contract.
