Chelsea had two tough games last week but play two sides much lower down the league this week. Enzo Maresca was asked in his press conference how he intended to make sure his side kept their focus.
All too often in the last few years, this team have picked up a good result against a big team, only to drop points in a game they should win.

Enzo Maresca speaking in his press conference.
“For sure,” the coach responded when asked if he was going to remind his players that these games are just as important.
“When you play games and you have experience, you’re going to be better. Now, the main message for me is quite clear. How many points beating Barcelona? Three points. How many points beating Arsenal? Three points. How many points beating Leeds? Three points. I understand that there are games that are more important for different reasons, but again, it’s three points, so it’s important to beat Leeds, because we need to win games.”
It’s a classic manager message – all these games are worth the same, regardless of what it feels like to beat Barcelona or any other top team. Slipping up against Leeds tomorrow night will undo so much of the impressive work it took to squeeze a point out of Arsenal with ten men.
Let’s hope that message gets through to the players and we see a high energy, high focus showing right from the off tomorrow.
Chelsea got two good results last week, but have struggled in some game against teams which sit deeper – Enzo Maresca explained some running stats away in his presser.
Aaron Anselmino had a couple of false starts in his Dortmund loan after injuries, but he’s now back playing regularly and they are already talking about buying him permanently.
