Maresca hints at change of role for Man City star | OneFootball

Enzo Maresca says he currently sees Rayan Ait-Nouri as more of a winger than a full-back at Manchester City.

Ait-Nouri was predominantly used as a wing-back during his time at Wolves and has largely played left-back at City.

But Maresca believes the defender’s attacking qualities make him better suited to playing further forward in his side.

“When he was at Wolves, I know he was playing back five, so it was more wing-back than full-back,” Maresca explained.

“In this moment, I see him more winger than full-back. But that means that in the future, if we need him as a full-back, we are not going to use him? Probably yes (we will use him there), but in this moment, yeah, he’s more a winger.”

Maresca highlighted Ait-Nouri’s technical ability and strength in one-on-one situations as two of the qualities which make him an attacking option.

“I think technically he’s very good, also in one-v-one he’s good,” he added.

“In terms of passes, the other day he made good assists for Erling.”
