Maresca on Rodri’s future and rules out Enzo bid before deadline | OneFootball

Enzo Maresca insisted that “anything can happen” amid Rodri links to Barcelona and revealed that City are unlikely to bid for Enzo Fernandez before the deadline.

Rodri has been linked with a move away from Manchester City this summer, with Barcelona reportedly the frontrunners for his signature.

The midfielder has one year left on his contract at Manchester City, but Maresca’s side are yet to accept a bid for him.

“First of all, we already said the transfer window is open, we can buy and sell players, anything can happen,” he said when asked about Rodri’s future.

“I’ve just seen Rodri now in the building; I gave him a big hug, he looks good, so we’ll see what happens.”

Chelsea have reportedly set a deadline of 5pm on Friday the 14th of August for clubs to try and sign Fernandez. Maresca was asked whether City are likely to bid for the player before that deadline.

“Not today, to be honest,” he answered. “I don’t think we’re going to do something today.”

“In this moment, again, I have to give you the same answer since day one. It will always be the same. It’s a player from another club, I don’t think it’s correct to talk about him,” Maresca added about the Argentine.

“At the same time, I don’t think it’s correct for other clubs to speak about our players. That’s why I’m not going to say anything about players that aren’t with us.”

Tijani Reijnders has also been linked with a move away from Manchester, with Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah reportedly likely to complete a deal for the midfielder.

“It’s a bit difficult to convince players when they are already convinced; it’s not always easy,” Maresca said when asked if he has tried to convince the Dutchman to stay at the club.
