Enzo Maresca has said Manchester City ‘are going to do something for sure’ before the closure of the transfer window.
Manchester City were well beaten by Arsenal in the Community Shield on Sunday, with the Cityzens suffering a 3-0 loss in Maresca’s first game in charge.
An early goal set the tone for a nightmare afternoon for City, who never got going at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
City were without Rodri, who remains subject of ongoing transfer speculation, while £116m record recruit Elliot Anderson struggled to impose himself. City continue to be linked with midfield reinforcements, including Ayyoub Bouaddi and Enzo Fernandez.
Speaking to TNT Sports at full-time, Maresca insisted City would not be rectionary to the Arsenal loss, but said signings were imminent ahead of the September transfer deadline.
“We knew already before the game the things that we need to do. It’s not because we lost the game or if we win the game we were thinking differently.
“We are quite clear what we need to do and for sure we are going to do something before the window closes.”
Asked about how City coped without Rodri, who remains subject of strong interest from Barcelona, Maresca added: “Rodri is a player that just won the World Cup, Ballon d’Or. All the teams need a player like Rodri. So it’s not about if we missed Rodri or not.
“The ones that played today… I think Elliot [Anderson] was quite good, it was his first game. Mateo [Kovacic]. I think we can find many things after this kind of defeat. We just need to be analyse in the right way and think about and focus on the next one.”
