Enzo Maresca have revealed why Moises Caicedo was absent from the Chelsea squad for the FA cup win against Morecambe on Saturday.
The Blues advanced to the fourth round, where they face a trip to Brighton thanks to a 5-0 win against the League Two outfit.
Tosin Adarabioyo and Joao Felix both scored twice, whilst Christopher Nkunku also found the back of the net as he made a up for a first half penalty miss.
Perhaps learrning from the Newcastle defeat in the Carabao Cup, Maresca fielded a really strong starting line-up, which included the likes of Reece James, Romeo Lavia and Pedro Neto.
The bench was also strong with the likes of Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez and Nicolas Jackson amongst the substitutes.
Noni Madueke was absent due to illness, but there was no Caicedo in the squad, which normally wouldn’t be a concern, although there was no reason given for his absence at the time.

Caicedo has arguably been Chelsea’s most important player this season and Maresca has explained why the 23-year-old wasn’t part of the squad on Saturday.
“Moises is okay, he was the only one with Noni that didn’t finish the session on Friday but he is fine,” he said in words cited on X.com.
Jason Cundy believes Caicedo is more important to Chelsea than Palmer, and it’s hard to disagree given there’s no like for like replacement in the squad.
