Chelsea news this week is being dominated by one thing – Enzo Maresca’s outburst on Saturday, where he referred to the previous 48 hours as his “worst” at Chelsea because of a lack of support.
He refused to elaborate, both in the moment and in the subsequent press conference on Monday morning. Rather than make the story go away, it’s just let speculation run rife.

Dom Smith’s piece for the Evening Standard today agrees with most of us – Maresca ruled out the fans, and there’s no reason he would expect “support” from the media – the only remaining solution is that he’s disappointed by the way he’s been treated by those above him at the club, presumably specifically the sporting directors.
“[Maresca’s comments] suggest he feels he ought to have been given public backing after the recent four-match winless run, or that he is growing tired of having to explain his decision-making on such a regular basis. Maresca is known to hold debriefs with the co-sporting directors after each game.”
Which leaves you wondering – what did he expect? Sporting directors in England don’t ever come out and speak publicly to defend their manager. If he wanted to be supported on the pitch with an experienced team and not manage a youth player factory farm for profit – well, he took the wrong job. He’s known the deal since he signed on, and kicking up a fuss will only serve to get him sacked.
Perhaps that’s just what he wants.
Chelsea are in action tonight and this is the team we think Enzo Maresca is going to pick for the game. There are a lot of questions about how hard the rotation should be from the manager.
