According to Superdeporte, Rayo Vallecano will play their LaLiga matchday two fixture against Deportivo Alavés at Butarque, after reaching an agreement with CD Leganés mediated by the Community of Madrid.

The switch spares Rayo a move to Burgos, the alternative that had gathered the most momentum.

The call comes amid uncertainty over the Vallecas ground, where the concession was suspended following serious deficiencies and the need for urgent works. The 20 August game will now be staged only a few kilometres from the team’s barrio.

As recently as a few days ago, Rayo were preparing to host in Burgos. El Plantío had been selected and lodged with LaLiga as the contingency plan.

Playing in Leganés keeps supporters close and reduces the sporting and logistical strain of leaving Vallecas. It avoids asking thousands to travel more than 200 kilometres for a nominal home game.

Choosing Butarque solves the immediate headache, not the wider issue. The situation at Vallecas remains unclear and the works could last weeks. For now, Rayo’s first home match of the season will be in Leganés, within Madrid, with the aim of returning to their own ground as soon as possible.
