Mark Fotheringham and Derek McInnes renewed their touchline rivalry during Celtic’s defeat to Rangers at Parkhead.

The Celtic coach became involved in a heated exchange with the Rangers manager early in the game after Emmanuel Fernandez was booked for bringing down Camilo Durán.

McInnes was unhappy with the decision and made his feelings clear to the fourth official before Fotheringham joined the argument, prompting referee John Beaton to book both men.

BBC Sport picked up on the incident, reporting that McInnes was “getting into it with Celtic coach Mark Fotheringham”, before adding: “Those two have history from last season when McInnes was at Hearts.”

It is not the first time the pair have clashed.

Fotheringham and McInnes were involved in a heated exchange at Tynecastle in January after Benjamin Nygren scored for Celtic against Hearts.

McInnes approached the Celtic technical area and later described Fotheringham as an “inexperienced” coach, accusing him of getting carried away with the celebrations.

Fotheringham subsequently phoned McInnes to apologise in an attempt to draw a line under the incident.

However, it did not take long for tensions to resurface when the pair found themselves in opposing dugouts once again at Celtic Park.

Within minutes of kick-off, Beaton was forced to intervene, with both coaches receiving yellow cards following their latest confrontation.
