After four consecutive Championship defeats, Cardiff City finally got a win on the board last night, defeating Birmingham City away from home.

In a match that saw the Bluebirds come up against a Blues side just a few places above them in the table and looking to avoid being sucked into a relegation battle, Cardiff ran out 2-0 winners.

Indeed, they left it late, but Perry Ng’s phenomenal 84th minute strike gave the away side the lead, before Callum Robinson’s 95th minute strike secured all three points for Cardiff deep into stoppage time.

The three points see the club sitting 21st in the division, but not just six points behind the Blues, in 18th.

One player who played the full 90 minutes in the clash and picked up his first league win since returning from Sheffield Wednesday on loan is central defender Mark McGuinness.

Despite the importance of the three points, the young defender kept it short and sweet on social media after the match.

On Instagram today, the 22-year-old wrote: “Important win last night 💪.”

There isn’t much time to rest for the Bluebirds following last night’s win, though.

They host Reading in Championship action at the Cardiff City Stadium on Friday night.

Kick-off in the Welsh capital is scheduled for 8PM on the night.

The Verdict

What a great result for Cardiff City last night.

Having gone four consecutive league games without a win, Sabri Lamouchi’s side needed those three points badly.

To do it away at a tough place to go in Birmingham City means they should be given even more credit, too.

With Reading coming up in just a few days time, the Bluebirds must now do everything they can to take the momentum from the Birmingham victory into that one and try to make it back to back Championship wins.
